In light of the situation arising in the country due to Covid-19, the University Grants Commission, UGC will issue guidelines to colleges and universities next week about the next academic session. For this, UGC had formed two committees that submitted their report on Saturday.
The Ist committee was formed under the chairmanship of the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Haryana, which was working on the methods of conducting exams in universities and an alternate academic calendar in lockdown. The 2nd committee will recommend measures to improve the level of online education. This committee is directed by IGNOU VC Nageswara Rao.
The UGC will now offer this report to the Ministry of Human Resource Development. According to the guidelines given by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, UGC will release a guideline for colleges and universities in this respect.
Both committees have submitted their report. These will be considered in the UGC meeting and later UGC will issue a guideline next week about when to commence the next session. As per media reports, the Commission has suggested the Ministry of Human Resource Development begin the next session from September.
Based on the sources, the suggestion provided by the universities and experts to the committee is that in view of the Corona transition, it is good to call the students for classes at any cost till the situation in the country improves. It will not happen as it will cause problems in keeping physical distancing among students.
Universities and experts also advised the committee that students in cities or districts where there are no Corona patients should be given an exemption to prepare for the upcoming entrance exams after the lock-down is finished so that they can get enrolled in the next session.
