Sports counseling is a specialized counseling process in which athletes are helped with the problems they face in their athletic lives. Counselors are concerned with the wellbeing, mental functioning, and physical performance of athletes. The emphasis is, particularly on the athletes' mental performance. Therefore, sport counseling mainly revolves around overcoming mental barriers, solving problems, increasing confidence, and improving motivation. Motivating the athlete is also a very crucial part of the counseling. Developing pre-performance routines, serving athletes develop their focus, and using methods to assist people to manage their energy are common tasks. In addition to that, aiding the athletes to overcome the rigorous schedule, guiding them about ways in which to handle the strain and pressure associated with athletics, and maintaining wholesome health are the primary objectives of a sports counselor.
