Abhishek Varman Kalank was supposed to hit the theatres on April 19, but the ambitious period drama will now open two days early, on April 17. With the long-awaited Avengers: Endgame releasing on April 26, the makers of Kalank want to make the most of the nine-day window before that.

Varun Dhawan, who plays Zafar in Kalank, told a newspaper, "We are releasing at a time when there is constant flow of films, both before and after. But today, there are enough screens to accommodate two big films and hopefully, we will get some shows in the second week too when Avengers arrives."

"It has a run-time of three hour and three minutes, ours is much shorter, so that will help us get some shows. That aside, April 17 is a partial holiday and we would benefit from it. We want to make as much money as possible before Avengers arrives," he added.

When Avengers: Infinity War hit the theatres last year, it went all Hulk smash on box-office records. The advance ticket sales were off the charts, with over 20 lakh tickets snapped up by enthusiastic fans even before the release of the film. It grossed over Rs 120 crore at the domestic box office in its opening weekend alone.

Avengers: Endgame seems set to break more records. When advance bookings began on US sites, several of them crashed due to the influx of traffic. The ticket sales surpassed the records of the last two Star Wars films, and some tickets appeared on resale platforms with asking prices of up to $500 (Rs 35,226) each.
