Indian Premier League 2019: Hardik Pandya hit an 8-ball 25 and picked up three wickets as he walked away with the Man of the Match award in Mumbai Indians 37-run win over Chennai Super Kings on Wednesday.

Hardik Pandya came up with an all-round effort for Mumbai Indians as he picked up three wickets and smashed an 8-ball 25 to hand Chennai Super Kings their first defeat in IPL 2019.

Hardik revealed he had been training hard during his time away from the senior national team and all that is helping him strike the ball as cleanly as he is in the ongoing season of IPL. Hardik was sidelined from international action during a back injury he picked up during Asia Cup last year. Shortly after his comeback, Hardik faced a suspension for his controversial comments in a popular television show -- Koffee With Karan.

Nonetheless, the Mumbai Indians all-rounder has returned to peak form in IPL 2019 and is expected to play a key role for India at the 2019 World Cup, starting May 30 in England and Wales.

"It feels really good to help the team win and to contribute to it. Its been seven months since I played much competitive cricket. Have batted and batted and batted in the nets. Touch wood, its helping me," Hardik said on Wednesday.

He added: "I am someone who loves to have game time and I am hitting them really well at the moment. Yes, the injury happened and then the controversy too. These seven months were not easy and I was not sure of what to do.

"This award is special and I dedicate it to all those who stood by me during those tough times. My goal is to keep performing and hopefully, help India win the World Cup."

Hardik had begun the season with a few handy cameos and on Wednesday, he hit peak form taking the Chennai Super Kings bowlers to the cleaners in the final two overs of Mumbai Indians innings.

Hardik hit three sixes, including a helicopter shot, during his eight-ball stay at the crease and helped Mumbai collect 45 runs in the last two overs and finish with 170 on the board.

Hardik returned to pick up three wickets with the ball. He had derailed Chennai Super Kings chase by picking up the wickets of MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja in the same over. Heaping praise on Hardik Pandya, Mumbai Indians senior all-rounder Kieron Pollard said Hardik is a fantastic player for the three-time champions.

"He (Hardik) is covering for me. He is a fantastic player. He has a clear mind and has been hitting the ball very well."
