The civil services preliminary exam 2020, postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, will be conducted on October 4, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) declared on Friday. It also told that the personality test of the students selected through the last year's civil services preliminary and mains will recommence from July 20.
This year's preliminary test was previously scheduled to be conducted on May 31 but was delayed due to the countrywide lockdown to curb the spread of coronavirus.
Personnel Minister Jitendra Singh told that the declaration of the new date for the civil services examination would allay apprehensions in some quarters of it being canceled.
The civil services exam is conducted annually in three stages - prelims, mains & interview -- by the UPSC to choose officers for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and the Indian Police Service (IPS), among others.
Lakhs of candidates take the examination every year to be part of the country's coveted civil services.
